Medieval 1

Using this photo of the floor in  Byland Abby , North Yorkshire , England I have started work on some blocks .

When I started to look at tiles from the medieval times I was struck by the patterns that are now used in Patchwork . The tile in the bottom corner of the photo made me think of double wedding ring . The one in the centre of the photo Dresden plate .

                           What do you think ??

  1. Tiles are a wonderful source of pattern and the one you show is no exception. I can see the wedding ring and Dresden plate! Happy stitching

  2. You are so right. Often you see in blogs that people get inspiration for their quilts from patterns they have seen in carpets, tiles or wrought iron. History repeats itself!

  3. Old tiles are endlessly interesting, Roman floors are good for inspiration too. I used to live near Winchester and visited the cathedral often. I also like the old, faded colouration
