Norfolk Young Quiltrs

I do not have any photos of there work from last week. Thy were give Flying geese pattern to put into a " bit bag" . Two new Children that had never used a sewing machine before, completed there's with individual help  . The group now has about 16 members and is still growing. We can only   manage 12 at one time so if there are more wanting to make, we have to run a second class . More news can be found on the Norfolk Quilters web site .

Two new Tote bags

I have had a very busy time . The Norfolk Young Quilters have been very active with two workshops making the OWL book cover , as the first one was over subscribed . Last  weekend we were selling fabric ( unsuitable for quilting )at Norfolk Quilters coffee morning.  M.C. and I have had a day cutting out 18 kits for the next Y.Q. workshop in June as well as sorting some fabric for the one in August .

I am also trying to sort out my Mothers bungalow , deciding where thing will go ( to my girls ,storage ,or for sale )

I just had to have my FIX of sewing .Back to my stack for more inspiration and this is the result as well as some for Christmas  but I will leave them for later.

Now to get ready to go and celebrate my Mothers 92nd birthday this afternoon.

Owl Book cover

I have just made this book  cover to follow the instructions M.C has written out for the Norfolk Young Quilter as a run through to make certain nothing has been left out.

M.C. and I are now working on some medieval inspired block. I am enjoying this as it need's some research to find images. The first block  is under way .

It is just amazing how much can be made  with just half a meter of fabric.

 

Key fob's ,Phone /coin /card purses  and the bags are ready for Apple Day

at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, 

                                         What to do with what was left ,put it on to shoppers.
                                                   Now I have nothing left.

                             Looking at my photos I think I might need a new camera ,perhaps put
                                   it on my Christmas list.


                            I am now working on making Advent Calendars ready for next month.

                         The Norfolk Young Quilter is going from strength to strength we now
                          have 15 girls . The stack and wack  cushion cover was not only mad but
                          Quilted all with time to spare, we have helper stay to supervise only.
                           The next meeting is hand sewing just to give them something different.

                          Next week M.C and I will be making shopper bags to sell at  coffee mornings
                           to raise money for more supply's   for the N,Y,Q.

                            Well back to the sewing machine  ,after a coffee.

Using Jenny Rayment's book

                             This will form the side panel's of my Christmas table runner.

            The centre panel is made from squares of red or cream with squares of cream folded on the corners. The folded edge is then rolled and hand stitched in place.  The above is made from two strips of cream and a strip of red stitched with folded edges onto the red .I have stitched a bar at intervals so I can roll the edge  and stitch that down. These are all different elements from Jenny's book  ( Creative Tucks and Textures )   I will try and get more done this week but I have our Craft fair this week and Norfolk Young  Quilters an Saturday.

Norfolk Young Quiltrs

        This is a photo of the bags made at this months  workshop for Norfolk Young Quilters as well as a wall hanging made by on of the more experienced girls. Seven girls and helpers came along and worked very hard and all were pleased with their bags. 










I have spent the morning in the garden putting the netting over my Blueberry's before the bird get use to them getting ripe . My Peony's might go over if the forecast rain arrives over night. Thy  do put on a rather good  show and the sent is lovely .

Going through my stash

 
Having time to go through my fabric I found this.There was only a small amount so decided to make this bag for a child. Then it was back to sorting out again. I have found fabric to make samples for Norfolk Young Quilter's as well as Very small scraps. One of our charity shops will take them if in a clear plastic bag. Textile waste can then be sold by the kilo. My sewing room is no clearer so I will have to set a side time this week to try and finish it as my grandchildren are coming to stay for a few days. They sleep in my sewing room and to get the cot in my machine and table have to go away.




Once the snow had gone I went out with my camera to see what was now putting on a display.

               The snowdrops are at the base of this Contorted Hazel that forms my grandchildren s Den.

                                   Spring is on it's way but we still have snow in our weather forecast.

Norfolk Young Quilters

There were Three young quilter for the first meeting. Some of the children could not make it.

The morning was spent making a needle case using   Stitch and Flip .One of the girls had only started to hand sew in the past to weeks and never used a sewing machine.First off she used an old hand machine and then with constant supervision an electric machine .
After lunch one girl had gone home to a party , the two that were left made a small bag to keep scissors and other thing in next to there machines.
There are other days planed and hopefully more children will join.
